Review: Bad Brains, God of Love
    Album review by Martin Bate.

  • REVIEW: Bad Brains God of Love (Maverick/Warner Brothers) - Martin Bate It's impossible to talk about Bad Brains without mentioning their hugely important history

  • By all rights, Bad Brains should have gone on to conquer the world

  • All the fears and suspicions were upheld in mid-May when, on their first night of an arena tour supporting the Beastie Boys, HR decided he didn't want to play and beat-up Bad Brains manager and then brother Earl before disappearing, only to be found next day when he tried to cross the Canadian border in posession of a large supply of marijuana

  • Bad Brains day may finally be arriving if HR can keep his head

  • Whether this is a concession to HR or not isn't clear, but it doesn't really matter because in the tradition of Bad Brains reggae exploits, it's all top stuff

  • It gives the album a disjonted feel, but Bad Brains themselves aren't without blame

  • The exceptions are the soul- metal of 'Justice Keepers' and the opening 'Cool Mountaineer' where HR's smooth croon glides over trademark Bad Brains sledge-hammer guitars which shift between a groove and a thrash

    Album review by Mark Jenkins.

  • [an error occurred while processing this directive] Bad Brains -- 'God of Love' By Mark Jenkins Special to the Washington Post Published: May 10, 1995 Review: Bad Brains: 'God of Love' (Maverick) Hard-core punk's most influential rent party, the original lineup of Bad Brains, has reassembled yet again, this time to work for Madonna

  • The new album, which continues the Brains' efforts to meld punk, metal and reggae, also reunites the band with former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, who produced 1983's 'Rock for Light, ' arguably the definitive Brains release

  • Though the group's enthusiasm for Rastafarianism and its music is surely genuine, the Brains are at their most galvanizing at full speed

  • Alone among their peers when they began playing at the Madams Organ art collective 15 years ago, the Brains had mastered their instruments

  • The Brains do manage a few surprises, notably on the bouncy, preachy 'Rights of a Child, ' which interrupts such commonplace pronouncements as 'Every life is priceless' with a pounding metal chorus and a spacy guitar solo

  • Clearly the Brains, who will play a free show tomorrow at Tracks, take seriously the praise-Haile Selassie message of 'To the Heavens' and 'Thank Jah.' The band's last album didn't work out, Jenifer told Billboard, because of 'an unfortunate mismatch of vibe and spirit

  • Imprint: Arts (Friday, June 30, 1995, Volume 18, Number 5) Bad Brains: God of Love Bad Brains God of Love Maverick/Warner Bros

  • by Sean Denomey , Imprint staff The best way to describe Bad Brains' sixth full length album is a cross between Faith No More, Bob Marley and a lot of Rastafarian propaganda

    Rembetika and Greek Popular Music
An introduction to Rembetika music, illustrated with photos and sound samples.

  • From Socrates to Tsitsanis My introduction to Greek Rembetika music began in 1973 with a visit from my musical mentor Jimmy Hatzidimitriou who later became known as Jimi Quidd, lead singer of the NY punk-pop band the Dots and the man who discovered and produced the legendary Bad Brains

  • So my introduction to Rembetika came through rock music, Socrates and Jimi Quidd, producer of the Bad Brains

    Prindle Record Reviews
Minor Threat history and album reviews.

  • if you like minor threat, you will love the bad brains, who (in my humble opinion) were THE GREATEST hardcore band of all time

  • i hear a huge bad brains influence in this album, even though they were kinda at opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to drugs..

  • This was an exciting sound that they were pioneering, but like everything else it eventually turned stale after a couple of years, so like all the other bands (Black Flag, Middle Class, Bad Brains..) who created it in the first place and were interested in music or emotions rather than political posturing, they moved along and left the hard-corpse for the vultures (Suicidal, MDC..)
